Parent Involvement

Literacy Program

No-cost reading, writing, language, computer class, and test prep program that is open to all. Offers literacy support and read-to-your-child program to incarcerated parents.

The Literacy Program offers free, open-to-all reading and writing support programs, as well as a parent to child reading program for incarcerated parents, tutoring, GED preparation, English language classes and more.

24/7 Dads Group

Supports dads who are working to strengthen their relationship with their children and to become more involved and active parents.

Plumas Crisis Intervention and Resource Center (PCIRC)

Location:

The 24/7 Dads program is designed to support fathers in becoming more engaged, responsible, and nurturing parents. Through a combination of group discussions and one-on-one coaching, participants learn about positive discipline, healthy communication, co-parenting strategies, and the importance of being a consistent presence in their children’s lives.

Community Advisory Committee (CAC)

Connects parents and families of children with disabilities to other families within Special Education. Provides a place to participate in the Local Area Plan to review and improve school services delivered to children in the district. The group meets every 3 months during the school year to connect and assist the district in improving the SELPA plan.

Location:

The Community Advisory Committee (CAC) is an advisory group made up of parents, educators, and community members who provide input to the Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA). Provides families and the community a place to share resources and support. Gives families the opportunity to review and comment proposed policy changes to the Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA) and to participate toward positive system improvement and change. Community stakeholders are invited to attend. Assists in parent education and in recruiting parents and other volunteers who may contribute to the implementations of the Local Plan. Advises the administration of the SELPA regarding the development amendment & the the review of the Local Plan. The SELPA shall review and consider the input from the CAC.

Children's Council (Plumas County Child Abuse Prevention Council)

Provides opportunities for parents to participate in local decision making with county agencies, creating family-centered activities and events, using the protective factors framework for strengthening families and reducing the risk of child abuse. The Council sponsors the Children's Fair and other family-friendly events throughout Plumas County.

Location:

The Children's Council coordinates the community's efforts to prevent and respond to child abuse and neglect. The Council sponsors the annual Plumas County Children's Fair each May in Quincy, as well as providing funding opportunities to sponsor free, family-friendly events throughout the county.
