This adoption services program helps find families for children who need a safe, forever home. Most of these children are in foster care and some have special needs. CDSS, private agencies, or county social workers can help with adoption. In Plumas County, the CDSS office in Chico checks to make sure families are ready and able to adopt.

Child and Family Services Unit - Child Protective Services and Foster Care Services

Child Protective Services can help families grow stronger and safer together. CPS also provides foster family care.

Child Protective Services is designed to preserve the family unit by strengthening parenting capacity and creating a willingness to provide a safe and healthful child-rearing environment. It helps keep children safe when there is a risk of abuse, neglect, or danger at home. Their goal is to support families so kids can stay with their parents in a safe and healthy home. The Department of Social Services offers help like dental interventions, parenting classes, counseling, drug testing, and other support to make things better at home for children and parents. Foster care is managed through the Child and Family Services Unit, and services include training and support to foster families through the Resource Family Approval (RFA) program.

Location:

Environmental Family Services (EA) is a licensed and accredited Adoption Agency serving California families. This agency can help to facilitate private, foster, and stepparent adoptions. EA is licensed agency for both foster care and adoptions. Having both licenses allows the agency to promote further stability in the lives of foster children. Once a child is eligible for adoption from foster care, they can be adopted by their resource family.

CASA - Court-Appointed Special Advocate

Plumas CASA trains volunteers to advocate for the rights of children in foster care and CPS court cases.

For families with a CPS court case, it helps to know their child has someone looking out just for them. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) are trained volunteers who spend time with children in foster care or juvenile probation. They learn about the child’s needs and speak up for them in court, at school, and in the community. Plumas CASA finds and trains these special helpers to support kids in Plumas County.

The Health Care Program for Children in Foster Care

Provides dental, developmental, healthcare, and mental health support to kids living in foster care.
