Sierra Cascade Family Opportunities provides high-quality, inclusive child development programs and social services through project-based and hands-on learning to young children, ages 2 - 5, and their families. All enrolled children receive whole-child wellness and developmental services, including timely immunizations and screenings for cognitive development, physical health, mental health, speech and language, hearing, vision, nutrition, and oral health. Once screenings have been completed, SCFO staff work with families to ensure that follow-up services are received for any identified needs. SCFO Family Engagement Staff works with enrolled families to identify any unmet needs during or after a disaster, and provides resources and referrals to assist the family.

The Resource and Referral Program helps families in Plumas County find child care. Parents can call to get free help finding child care that fits their needs, including family child care and preschools. Some families may qualify for free or low-cost child care. If you want to become a child care provider, the program offers help with getting licensed and gives support along the way. They also share helpful information for current child care providers.

PRS Child Care Payment Program

Helps income-eligible parents and guardians pay for child care costs.

Plumas Rural Services

The Child Care Payment Program can pay child care costs for parents or guardians who meet income eligibility requirements and who are working, looking for work, unhoused, in a training program, or unable to care for their child, or who are referred by CPS or other Plumas County Social Services department program.

PUSD Special Day Class

The Special Day Preschool Program in Quincy provides specialized early education, including speech & language therapy, and other targeted services, through a child's IEP.

FRC Child Development Center

Helps young children, ages 2-5, grow and learn through play-based lessons using Literacy, Math concepts, artistic self expression, music, movement, dramatic play, science, and large and small motor skills. Income- and student-eligible enrollment and fee-based enrollment for community.

Feather River College

The Feather River College Child Development Center provides a nurturing and engaging learning environment for preschool age children. The developmentally appropriate curriculum focuses on children’s cognitive, physical, and social emotional experiences through play based curriculum. Our teachers are all credentialed through Commission on Teacher Credentialing. Our program holds two state contracts and is funded through CA Department of Education and Department of Social Services. The Center provides care for children ages 2-5 years old and serves FRC students as well as community members. Their enrollment priority is low-income families, students, and working parents. The Center also has several over-income slots available each year.

The CDC serves children and their families during Feather River College's academic calendar year. The Center is open Monday through Friday, from August 22 - May 31.

PDH Child Care Center

Provides a full-time young child care and education program for infants to five years of age and open to all families, at their Quincy campus, located next to the Plumas District Hospital and outpatient clinics.

PDH Child Care Center provides a full-time program for infants and children up to five years of age. This program operates from 7:45am-5:15pm, Monday through Friday, and is licensed for children ages 0-5 years and is open for enrollment to all community families. The infant program allows for 4 infants, and the preschool program has a toddler component that allows for 18 toddlers and up to 14 preschoolers.

Plumas County Public Libraries hold early child story time groups for young children. The Library's Kids Page also has many free resources for parents of young children, as well as a full, online catalog of children's books. Story Time @ Your Library (Information about specific date cancellations will be found on our News & Events page. Remember, story time is paused during part of the Summer Reading Program.) Kindergarten Round Up

Provides a one-stop opportunity for parents of preschoolers to enroll their soon-to-be Kindergartners and Transitional Kindergartners. Many agencies are on site to help parents navigate this transition from young child to school age. Healthcare staff provide health exams, hearing, and vision screenings.

Plumas Unified School District

Each late April to early May, Plumas Unified School District sponsors and partners with multiple county organizations to help parents and their preschoolers get ready for Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten through this one-stop shop event at each of the area schools' campuses. Parents can have their child's vaccine record assessed, and healthcare providers are on site to provide health exams and hearing and vision screenings.

Dolly Parton's Imagination Library

Parents can sign up their young children to receive free books in the mail from Dolly Parton's Imagination Library.
